Lessons
Quality private instruction is crucial for the development of solid technique and good technique is crucial to the pursuit of exceptional musicianship. I believe that everyone can learn an instrument or how to sing. While for some it may come more naturally, anyone can benefit from from private study in a variety of ways. Most of us have heard how the study of music benefits our brain development. Why is that? Think of it like building a highway. At first it my be a two lane gravel road but over time and with hard work and discipline we can eventually build a neurological pathway that is capable of carrying a much higher volume of traffic. However, most of us do not pursue music study for the extra benefits. Most of us desire to study private because we love making music. It intrigues us and is embedded into our human DNA. We are quite literally made to make music.
All lessons range from 25 minutes to 55 minutes in length on a weekly basis. Pricing varies upon length of your private lesson. Lessons may be combined for discounted rates. (ie. Piano and Organ or Voice & Piano) All rates are the same regardless of instrument studied.
The first "consultation" lesson is only $30 for 25 minutes. In the consultation lesson, we discuss a few of your goals as a musician, and every student receives a short introductory lesson. This gives both the instructor and the student an opportunity to get to know each other a bit to ensure a mutually enjoyable teacher-student relationship.
Lessons are billed on pre-paid monthly basis only. Students will not receive a lesson on a promise of payment. Missed lessons are only credited if the instructor is notified 48 hours in advance or with a Doctor's note for injury or illness. Even if a student is not at 100%, we can still work on developing musicianship skills. Student Recitals are scheduled sometime in December and in again in May. I do not offer lessons in the months of June or July. I accept very few students each performance cycle (per semester) . If there are not studio times available, I will be happy to add students to my wait list or refer them to another qualified instructor.
*Note to Parents - Especially in today's economy, spending $40 - $60 a week for your child to play a piano or sing may seem like an unnecessary and frivolous expense. If your student has a passion for music, many colleges and universities give large scholarships for qualified students with good grades. Many private institutions are easily within your reach with generous financial aid packages for smart singers. An investment now in your students musical abilities may reap huge financial and personal returns for both you and your student.
